Glad the Saints won, for two reasons.

1) The coach went to my college.
2) There is nothing good in Indiana.

Though team president Danny Ainge has publicly ridiculed the Allen trade reports, several NBA executives told CBSSports.com that the Celtics have been actively trying to parlay Allen's $19.7 million expiring contract into an asset that could keep them in the mix during the upcoming playoffs and also help them for the next several seasons. The most recent inquiry, sources say, involved Sacramento sharpshooter Kevin Martin, who'd be a good fit with Boston's remaining core. Kings officials might be talked out of their reluctance to deal Martin if they could pry a prolific big man out of a third team brought into the discussions or in a separate transaction before the deadline.

Not so sure about that. K-Mart II is FRAIL and an injury waiting to happen. That would be a BAD deal on the Celts end

If the Celtics kept Allen and let his contract come off the books, they'd still be over the cap this summer with no avenues besides sign-and-trades to acquire a starting shooting guard. That's why Boston also has expressed interest in the Bulls' Kirk Hinrich, an excellent defender and ball-handler who would give the Celtics a starting two guard next season at $9 million and in 2011-12 at $8 million. The Bulls' motivation would be cap relief.

I say RIDE IT OUT WITH RAYRAY until the end of the season and just hope that he gets out of his funk.

Though team president Danny Ainge has publicly ridiculed the Allen trade reports, several NBA executives told CBSSports.com that the Celtics have been actively trying to parlay Ray Allen's $19.7 million expiring contract into an asset that could keep them in the mix during the upcoming playoffs and also help them for the next several seasons. The most recent inquiry, sources say, involved Sacramento sharpshooter Kevin Martin, who'd be a good fit with Boston's remaining core.

Kings officials might be talked out of their reluctance to deal Kevin Martin if they could pry a prolific big man out of a third team brought into the discussions or in a separate transaction before the deadline. The bottom line is that Ainge, who saved his job by pulling off the perfect storm of trades that yielded Allen and Garnett three years ago, has made it clear in private conversations that he's "not going back to the abyss," according to one person familiar with the discussions.

The Kings, who are not planning to be big free-agent shoppers this summer, aren't seeking to acquire cap space alone. They want assets -- and the Celtics don't have a young big man to offer. The Bulls, who almost certainly will move Tyrus Thomas, might need to be invited into that conversation to satisfy everyone's needs.

With D'Antoni saying Nate Robinson is "a shooting guard," it exacerbates their need for point guard help at the Feb. 18 trade deadline and they have been linked to Bobcats point guard Acie Law, who has been given permission to talk to other clubs.

Caldwell got out-coached. Flat out.

Brees didn't have any spectacular plays. He didn't make anything happen. He just stuck to the plan and executed it FLAWLESSLY. Peyton was putting em up and Brees was puttin em down and the Colts couldn't stop it without a pass rush.

Caldwell got smacked int he mouth and made no adjustments on his defense to stop it.

Manning made the mistake of relying on an 80% Reggie Wayne and it hurt them on 2 big plays: the pick-6 and the dropped ball on 4th and goal.

Jerry Sloan now readily acknowledges, with the benefit of hindsight, that perhaps Andrei Kirilenko hasn't been used properly over the years. But lately the Jazz's starting small forward has been playing like the NBA All-Star he once was. Playing like when he stars for his homeland on the world stage. Playing like someone living up to, if such a notion actually is possible, his $16.44 million season-long salary. But why? Why now, and why not previously? Curious minds want to know just what's behind the recent resurgence of the lanky Russian, which not so coincidentally at all coincides roughly with a stretch in which the Jazz have won eight straight and 12 of their last 13 games.

Owner Mark Cuban said publicly that changes are coming, and Dallas — one of the few teams not terrified of the expected smaller salary cap — is on the phones hard, according to sources. The Mavericks have more than $17 million worth of expiring contracts, including forward Josh Howard, who has an $11.8 million team option for next season.

Agreed.  I thought it was great they were able to keep Manning on the bench for basically the entire 2nd quarter.  The onsite kick was very bold, but it worked and created a spark.  Freeney started off very well, but the Saints made the adjustment and Brees had all the time he needed.  And like you said, Colts didn't make the adjustment.  Why Manning went away from Clark down the stretch is beyond me, dude was tearing them up, but maybe Sean Peyton made the right adjustments to shut him down (most likely).  Great game though.

Despite the fact that this was Caldwell's loss, it will serve as a HUGE blow to Manning's legacy.

In my opinion, it was the best 2-QB performance I have ever seen in a SB. Both guys hit their spots and shredded defenses. The talk is about Brees setting the record with 32 completions, but no one mentions that Manning had 31.

His biggest mistake (as I mentioned before) was going to Wayne in the closing 2 drives. Other than that, both QBs  played great.

Payton said they would be aggressive and he proved it. I heard that their kicker (actually the punter) had never attempted an onside ina game before. He pulled it off and will be a hero in NOLA for a long time.

Payton showed this season that he's the coach to beat and witht he way their O and D has played all year, they could be back. 2009-2010 looks bleak for the NFC outside of the Saints and Cowboys.

WHAT THE HELL?!?

The Nuggets coach said Saturday that back in 2005, Denver had a trade on the table with Atlanta, which had the No. 2 pick in the draft. The plan was for the Nuggets to draft Deron Williams, now an all-star for the Jazz. "I don't know why we didn't do it or what happened, but there's no question that I thought he'd be a great player," Karl said. "I like him because his passion and energy for the game is contagious. It's fun to watch and it's difficult to play against."

I know there has been a lot of talk lately about the Wizards being reluctant to move Jamison to Cleveland given the bad blood between the two franchises. The apprehension is believed to be rooted in three hotly contested playoff series, and Larry Hughes's departure in the summer of 2005. The prevailing sentiment from people around the league is that President Ernie Grunfeld has no desire to help Danny Ferry and the Cavaliers win a championship by giving them Jamison.

MILWAUKEE -- Hall of Famers Hank Aaron and Robin Yount will get some company this summer outside Miller Park.

The Brewers on Monday announced plans to honor former club owner and current Major League Baseball Commissioner Allan H. "Bud" Selig with a bronze statue on the home plate plaza at Miller Park, near similar monuments to Aaron and Yount.

(EW.com) -- EW talked to "The Late Show" executive producer Rob Burnett about David Letterman's surprising decision to include Jay Leno in a promotional spot during the Super Bowl.

Entertainment Weekly: Why did you decide to do this?

Rob Burnett: Well, the 10 seconds we did with Dave and Oprah for the Super Bowl in 2007 went pretty well and CBS came back and said we got 10 seconds again for this one. Nothing is more simultaneously exhilarating and fear-inducing than hearing you have 10 seconds in the Super Bowl.

We were banging heads together. How do we come close to topping the last one? Then Dave got this idea. My first call was to Oprah -- she got it right away -- and then I called [CBS Corp. Chairman] Les Moonves to make sure he was OK with Jay being on CBS.

I have to give Les credit ... he got it immediately. And then I called [Leno's executive producer] Debbie Vickers ... who said, 'Dave and Jay, in the same room?' She laughed for a good minute and said Jay would want to call. I hung up, and two minutes later it was Jay. He said 'This is the way show business should be.' Debbie then cleared it with NBC Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin and NBC-Universal CEO Jeff Zucker.

Glad the Saints won, for two reasons.

1) The coach went to my college.
2) There is nothing good in Indiana.

the coach took a ruthless gamble and won Grin  loved it!

Yeah, I about jumped out of my seat when that happened....

Caption from BALL DON'T LIE

"Marc's Journal. February 3rd, 2010: Grizzley carcass in alley this morning, LeBron's footprint on burst stomach. This city is ashamed of me. I have seen its true face. Our record's an extended gutter and the gutter's full of Ls and when the pain finally scabs over, all the jokes will drown. The accumulated Wins of the Kobes and LeBrons will foam up about their waists and all the Darkos and Devins will look up and shout 'Save us!" ... and I'll whisper 'No.'"

LOS ANGELES (AP)—Los Angeles Clippers center Chris Kaman(notes) will replace the Trail Blazers’ Brandon Roy(notes) in this weekend’s All-Star game.

Roy injured his right hamstring last month. Roy, in his fourth season with the Blazers, made the All-Star team as a reserve for the third straight season.

Kaman will be making his first All-Star appearance.

"Danny has said, 'I can't go back to square one where we were prior to the Garnett deal,'" the person said. "At the All-Star break, they’re going to look in the mirror and say, 'Cleveland got better, we can't beat Orlando, and we can't even beat the Hawks. We’re not going to win it this year.'"

FACIAL

in a loss though... i played a church league game last saturday and had an impressive stat-line as my ankle is finally getting better (docs still say i need surgery though).

anyway, i had 27pts (9-12), 1 3ptm, 8-10ft, 6rebs, 11ast, 3stl, 3blk, 5tos and we lost the game... really couldn't enjoy my line... oh, and i got dunked on by some kid!! Smiley

You're the Josh Smith of the Church League?
lol!! hey, i'm 32 and did that against 21+ year olds... Smiley i'm proud of that mainly coz i'm finally running again. ankle still heavily braced and taped, but i'm catching my stride. and i've learned to shoot better due to my lack of jumping capability!!

lol i remember playing in church leagues when i was a teen...and i dint even attend the church....wonder if anyone else actually got into a fight besides me in a church league game, lol
